Frequently Asked Questions
What is Counseling?
Counseling (what refers here is psychotherapy) focuses on how people at all ages function both personally and in their relationships. It addresses emotional, social, work, school and physical health concerns people may have. People seek counseling when they experience psychological, emotional, relational, or behavioral challenges which affect their overall functioning and/or interpersonal relationships.
“I cry often with no reasons and have very little energy to complete anything.”
“I worry a lot and I have poor sleep and appetite.”
“My child is acting out at home and school but nothing I do seems working.”
When seeking counseling, there might be stresses present in lives and more severe issues with which people may struggle as individuals and as a part of families, groups and organizations. Only a counselor who holds a master’s or above degree with professional training and license in psychology (e.g. licensed marriage and family therapist, licensed social worker, and licensed professional clinical counselor) can provide services to the suffering individuals or families to alleviate feelings of distress and resolve long-lasting issues. A licensed counselor can also provide assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of more severe psychological symptoms.
How many sessions do I need?
I wish I had a crystal ball to answer this question, but the determining factors for the length of treatment often depends on the complexity of the issues and your commitment to the process of treatment. Counseling/psychotherapy does take time to help you recognize, process and resolve issues, past and present, so you can have a healthier and more fulfilling future. Please allow yourself the the time you need for healing and change.
Do I see you in person or online?
Beginning of 2022, in person sessions will be suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19 variant, Omicron. Online sessions will be provided via a HIPAA compliant platform (your confidentiality and privacy is the top priority to me). I will help you to set up and be ready for our first session. During our first session, I will also help you to check your system to make sure you will have a smooth online experience.
Research has been done and shown that counseling provided online is as effective as in person for various issues, such as depression, anxiety, loss and grief, relational discord,...etc.. If you have more questions about receiving counseling online, please schedule your free 15-minute phone consultation and I will be happy to answer your questions.
How much do you charge? Do you take insurance or offer a reduced rate for missionaries and their families?
Each session I provide is 50 minutes long and the rate is $170.00/session. I am not a contractor with any insurance company. However, I can provide you with documents to receive reimbursements, if your insurance coverage allows. Please consult with your insurance company about your out-of-network provider reimbursement policies.
I will provide you with a Good Faith Estimate to inform you about the cost of treatment based on your unique condition before scheduling your first appointment. To learn more about the Good Faith Estimate, please click the link: Good Faith Estimate Notice.
I do have a reduced rate for missionaries and their families. Please take the advantage of your free 15-minute phone consultation and help me understand your situation. We will discuss a financially feasible plan to meet your needs.

As your therapist, I Do Not:

Make decisions for you
You are not only the expert of your life, but also the owner. My role is to use my professional knowledge and training to empower you to make the decisions that your heart truly desires. This will take time, so please be gentle and patient with yourself and the process.
Involve in any legal actions
In order to protect your confidentiality and privacy, also to keep my position neutral and unbiased, I will not be involved in any legal proceedings or actions. This means, I will not write reports for the court, your legal representatives, or your social workers. Additionally, I will not speak to your legal representatives or social workers about your participation or progress in counseling.
Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience
I'm a Christian. However, when I am in the therapist's seat, it is about you, not me. It is my job to understand your worldview and how your beliefs/culture operate in your daily activities. I will help you to find the resting place in your soul according to your faith system.
